Medieval festival at Melodka

Tempus (CZ), Strigôň (SK), Stella Betula (CZ), and Barbar Bards (CZ) will perform at Melodka in Brno.

If you’re a fan of medieval music, mark October 13th on your calendar, because Medieval Rock Night with TEMPUS, STRIGÔN, STELLA BETULA, and BARBAR BARDS will take place in Brno for the second time!

The Brno band TEMPUS, led by charismatic singer Linda Ravenna, has been on the music scene for two decades. The group currently plays in an eight-member lineup composed of experienced musicians who also have experience in other genres. The instrumentation is very unconventional and varied, as it combines modern musical instruments with replicas of medieval instruments. The result is catchy songs with imaginative arrangements and stylish interpretation. Melodic lines of the hurdy-gurdy, flute, or shawm intertwine with pleasing motifs of electric guitar underscored by bass and drums. The songs have a very dynamic structure, based on the contrast between Linda Ravenna’s delicate vocals and intricate instrumental parts. Tempus is not easy to categorize, as their music incorporates not only medieval melodies and rock elements, but also inspiration from Celtic music and world music. As a special guest, Šedovous will perform with the band Tempus, playing two unique instruments – the Celtic harp and nyckelharpa.

Next up is the well-known Slovak music group STRIGÔŇ. Their work draws inspiration not only from the world of the Middle Ages and antiquity but also from the fantasy realm. Their lyrics are mainly based on Slavic mythology. Powerful vocal lines contrast with historical instruments such as flutes, bagpipes, cello, bouzouki, drums, and more. Strigôň has so far released two albums, Dunaj in 2019 and Posledný strom in 2020.

STELLA BETULA, from Brno and Vysočina, processes medieval and Nordic traditions. Their musical arsenal consists of quite unusual instruments such as nyckelharpa, bagpipes, quintone or shawm. This year, the band released their first EP called Sever & jih.

The members of BARBAR BARDS started playing together at barbarian events. The playing was so intense that they formed a band together. The bards specialize in medieval music, arrangements of traditional songs, and also include elements of dance music in their show, which will liven up any party.
